The Itinerary
The east section of the Cabot Trail, between Baddeck and Ingonish, is one of the most dramatic: the road climbs and plunges in tight switchbacks toward the Atlantic, with breathtaking views at Smokey Mountain.
Baddeck hosts the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site (the telephone inventor lived and is buried here). Ingonish is the heart of Cape Breton Highlands National Park: Keltic Lodge (historic 1940 hotel), Highlands Links golf course (one of the world's best) and the red sand beach. The Franey trail offers a spectacular 360° vista.
