The Itinerary
The Fortress of Louisbourg, North America's largest historical reconstruction, takes visitors back to 1744. Built by the French in 1713 to defend the cod fishery, captured by the British in 1745 and again in 1758.
50 reconstructed buildings, 100+ costumed interpreters playing 18th-century roles. Sample military rations, watch the guard mount, witness a cannon firing. The "Big Fiddle" (18 m statue) in Sydney is the other landmark. Cape Breton is also Scottish Gaelic country.
