The Itinerary
Lunenburg, founded in 1753 by German, Swiss and French settlers, is UNESCO World Heritage (1995) for its perfectly preserved colonial old town: brightly painted wooden houses, historic harbour, Lutheran church.
The Bluenose II, replica of Canada's iconic schooner (on the 10¢ coin), is moored in the harbour. The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic tells the cod fishery story. En route, Peggy's Cove (the world's most-photographed lighthouse) and Mahone Bay (three iconic churches) are must-stops.
