The Itinerary
A day in the city: Halifax Citadel (1856 star fort, noon-gun firing by costumed 78th Highlanders) dominates the city. The 4-km wooden waterfront, one of the world's longest, is pedestrian.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic holds Titanic artifacts (Halifax housed the dead) and items from the 1917 Halifax Explosion (largest non-nuclear explosion before Hiroshima). Pier 21 (Immigration) tells the story of 1928–1971 arrivals. Restaurants and patios buzz in summer. Ferry to Dartmouth from the central wharf.
