The Itinerary
The west section of the Cabot Trail is the loop's most impressive: between Chéticamp (Cape Breton's Acadian capital) and Pleasant Bay, the road climbs French Mountain (455 m) then descends to Pleasant Bay with dizzying views.
Chéticamp is the centre of Acadian culture on Cape Breton — music, hooked rugs, Le Gabriel restaurant. Pleasant Bay hosts the Whale Interpretive Centre (fin and pilot whales). The Skyline Trail, Cabot's most iconic hike (6.5 km), starts from this section.
